Nail Fungal Laser
In February 2011, Health Canada approved the use of a nail fungal laser and Dr. Troy became the first Certified Provider of this new technologically-advanced toe nail fungus treatment. The laser Dr. Troy uses is a PinPointe Foot Laser, and it is the first laser to pass the rigorous evaluation required by Health Canada.
Treatment from a nail fungal laser is an effective, fast and drug-free procedure that only takes about 40 minutes to perform, and in most cases only one treatment is needed to completely stop toe nail fungus. In severe infections, however, additional treatments may be needed. After receiving treatment with the nail fungal laser, visible changes and clearing at the base of the toe nail can be seen in as little as two to four months. Dr Troy is pleased to offer the toe nail laser treatment throughout B.C. and the Vancouver area including Delta, Surrey, White Rock, and Richmond.
What sets a nail fungal laser procedure apart from other treatment options is that it requires no anesthesia and there are no side effects. Patients walk in and walk out, and they can return to normal work and physical activities immediately after treatment. Treated nails can even be polished after a fungal toe nail laser treatment, as long as care is given to avoid instruments not used by you exclusively.
The nail fungal laser used by Dr. Troy can be virtually pain-free by carefully adjusting the laser energy until only a slight warming feeling is noticed. The heat a patient feels is created by the toe nail fungus absorbing the laser’s energy and vaporizing, which destroys the fungus right where it lives - under the toe nail. This procedure is also effective in stopping the fungus’s ability to infect other nails or the surrounding skin. And this is done without damaging the root of the nail, thereby allowing a healthy toe nail to grow out over time.
